Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) Program

What is the Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program?

The Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program is a FREE service that pays for your Uber, Lyft or taxicab ride to get you home from work if an emergency arises that requires you to leave work early or if you unexpectedly have to work late. The Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program provides 6 (six) FREE  rides home to commuters who carpool, vanpool, ride transit, bike, or walk to work at least three days a week. To be eligible you must live or work in Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, St. Lucie, Martin, Monroe or Indian River counties. For more information, please visit:  GuaranteedRideHome.org

What is considered an “emergency” to use the free GRH rides?

Eligible “emergency” situations include the following:

  • Illness of the commuter or a member of his/her immediate family.
  • Unscheduled/unplanned overtime or extended work hours.
  • Carpool/Vanpool driver’s or passenger inability to make the scheduled trip home due to an unexpected work schedule or illness.
  • Regular transit service is unavailable or inaccessible.
Where can I be picked up?

You will ONLY be picked up from your work address on your South Florida Commuter Services (SFCS) profile. You will not be able to utilize your voucher for a Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) trip if you request a ride from another location.

How many free GRH rides do I get per year?

As part of the Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program, you will receive up to 6 (six) GRH rides per year. The six GRH rides will be automatically replenished (to 6) on October 1st annually. Unused GRH rides will not carry over to the new year.

Can my unused GRH rides be added to my new set of 6 (six) GRH rides every year?

Your six GRH rides will be automatically replenished (up to 6) on October 1st annually. Unused GRH rides will not carry over to the new year.

How do I request a free GRH ride?

You must previously be a registered commuter with South Florida Commuter Services (SFCS). Registered SFCS commuters must call 1-800-234-RIDE (7433) to request a free GRH ride. Our Customer Service Representatives will do the rest.

Some after-hours trips, or if you elect to use a taxicab (as an alternative to Uber/Lyft), you will need to log into your SFCS profile at www.1800234ride.com, download, redeem, and print out your paper voucher. Your paper voucher must be presented to the taxicab driver prior to the start of the GRH ride. Please have your paper voucher ready before calling SFCS at 1-800-234- RIDE (7433) to request a GRH ride.

How do I access my GRH vouchers (needed for Taxicab rides)?

As a registered commuter, you can access your vouchers by logging into your SFCS profile.

On your SFCS profile click on “My Rewards”, then click on “Show Details and Inventory” below and click on “GRH Voucher (In Stock) 1 Point.”  Redeem your voucher using 1 point, and you will have access to your GRH voucher.  Print this voucher out and hand it to the taxi driver at the beginning of the GRH ride when you are picked up.

Any altered voucher will be render invalid.

UBER/LYFT OPTION

If requesting a GRH ride using Uber/Lyft, you do not need to have a printed voucher on hand. Simply call us at 1-800-234-RIDE (7433).

How soon will I be eligible to start requesting free GRH rides?

You can start requesting free GRH rides 24 hours after receiving your South Florida Commuter Services (SFCS) registration confirmation email. Please allow approximately 48 hours for your registration to be processed.

Can I request my own Uber/Lyft/Taxicab ride home?

No. As part of the Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program, you must call SFCS at 1-800-234-RIDE (7433) and one of our friendly Customer Service Representatives will process the free GRH ride request on your behalf. Any unauthorized GRH rides will not be reimbursed and may result in termination from the program.

Is the free GRH program available 24 hours a day?

TAXICAB OPTION

Yes. Simply call us at 1-800-234-RIDE (7433) to request your free GRH ride.

UBER/LYFT OPTION

Currently, Uber/Lyft options are available Monday through Friday from 8 am to 6 pm. If requesting a free GRH ride using Uber/Lyft, simply call us at 1-800-234-RIDE (7433).

If I choose to use Uber or Lyft for my Guaranteed Ride Home, do I need to have the Uber/Lyft app or an Uber/Lyft account?

No, you do not need to have the Uber/Lyft app or have an Uber/Lyft account. Once we make the arrangements for an Uber/Lyft driver to pick you up, you will receive all of the details of the ride via text message on your mobile phone. Our Customer Service Representatives can also provide you information on your upcoming ride over the phone.

If I choose to use a Taxicab (as an alternative to Uber/Lyft), what do I give to the driver in lieu of payment for the ride?

You will provide your printed GRH voucher to the taxicab driver as payment (gratuity is not included with the voucher). Vouchers must be provided to the taxicab driver at the beginning of the GRH ride. Taxicab drivers will not accept photocopies, facsimiles, or expired vouchers. If you do not have a valid GRH voucher available for payment at the time of your ride, you will be responsible for payment. Participants will not be reimbursed for those services rendered.

Can I use my free GRH ride to go to work, doctor’s appointment, etc.?

No. The Guaranteed Ride Home program is ONLY to be used for rides from your place of employment to your home or Park and Ride lot in the event of UNEXPECTED emergencies or if you are working late without prior notice. Your pickup location must be the work address in your SFCS profile.

If I have already used my 6 (six) GRH rides, when do I get more?

The six GRH rides will be automatically replenished (to 6) on October 1st annually.

Can I use someone else’s free GRH ride?

No. Using another participant’s GRH ride is considered a violation of the program. Both you and the account owner of the GRH ride will receive a violation which may result in immediate termination from the program for up to one year.

If I am in a South Florida Vanpool and our van breaks down, can we use the Guaranteed Ride Home to get home?

Yes. South Florida Vanpool riders who are registered with South Florida Commuter Services are entitled to free GRH rides if the vanpool breaks down. If all members in the vanpool are going to the same location (i.e., Park and Rides, Transit Hubs, etc.), then the group may use one (1) GRH ride. However, if the members of the group are going to separate locations, each member must use his/her own GRH ride.

PLEASE NOTE: If your South Florida Vanpool vehicle breaks down on your way to work, you must call South Florida Vanpool for assistance.
